Brushed Concrete

Brush Finished Concrete. Kitchener Waterloo

The Brushed Concrete Process

Passing a specialized concrete brush over concrete before it has fully cured provides a “brushed” appearance. The brush strokes are necessary for any exterior concrete as it would be slippery otherwise. The outside is then floated with a concrete edger to give its decorative edging design.

Why You Would Choose Brushed Concrete

Brushed concrete provides a high-traction surface that can sustain daily human and vehicle traffic. This is especially important as ice and slippery conditions are common throughout Canadian winters. This is why areas of high foot traffic such as a concrete driveways and commercial applications are often brushed concrete. In addition, it is the most popular type of concrete finish because it is economical and easiest to maintain.

Maintenance

Maintenance will consist of primarily power washing any stains off of your concrete. Tougher stains, such as oil stains can be removed using store bought chemicals such as TSP. Although you can seal brushed concrete, it is not usually applied as it will leave the concrete looking patchy. In regards to the winter maintenance, it is important to note that regular rock salt should not be used on concrete and a calcium chloride ice melt should be used instead. Calcium chloride ice melt can be bought at your local Lowes store and will not damage the surface of the concrete.

Design Options

Design options are limitless in terms of shape and size. Customers who want to avoid the “white look” of regular concrete have the option of adding colour to the concrete. There are 25 different colour options available that you can choose from. In addition, as you can see with the picture above, a finished edge can add to the curb appeal. There are various edge designs available.
